As communities and schools are both powerful socializing agents, community partnerships are valuable assets to character and citizenship education. Character and citizenship will be reinforced if similar messages come from multiple sources. Communities must have shared goals with parents and schools, and should work together with schools and families.
Focus for community partnerships can be either centered on the student, family, school, or community. Support from the community can be strengthened by looking for curricular support, establishing a community resource network, creating learning service opportunities, or promoting and publicizing partnerships.
